Insurance for Your Big Day and Beyond
You're preparing for your wedding and you want everything to be perfect…but things don't always go according to plan. You've figured out by now that weddings are quite costly and such a large investment should be protected accordingly. Have you and your significant other discussed insurance for the Big Day, the honeymoon and beyond?
Here are some insurance coverages for you to consider:
The Rings: Make sure to update your renters or homeowners policy to include your new jewels! NJM's standard coverage is for $1,000 per item for theft only, but if the rings are added to the policy as a separate endorsement, then they're covered at full value if damaged or destroyed by a covered cause of loss. In order to insure your rings on your policy under a separate endorsement, you would need to have them appraised and submit an application to NJM.
The Gifts: Were any of your non-monetary wedding gifts stolen? Personal property is usually covered on a homeowners policy for 50% or 60% of the amount of structure coverage. Learn about NJM coverage for jewelry, silverware or fur.
The Honeymoon: What happens if you need to cancel or delay your trip due to a medical emergency, inclement weather or lost luggage? A separate insurance plan with trip protection coverage can make reimbursement for the entire cost of the trip possible. Consult with your travel agent for additional details. However, your luggage and its contents may be covered under your homeowners insurance as personal property. Refer to your Policy Jacket for coverage details.
The Home and Vehicles: Once you've tied the knot, you can combine your auto policies — there's no need to maintain separate coverage. Check to make sure the coverage limits are appropriate for both of you and that all relevant discounts have been applied. Your newlywed status may also earn you a discount on your insurance — customers with both auto and homeowners insurance through NJM will receive a discount on their homeowners insurance policy premium.
Don't Forget The Party! Ask your venue about their liability insurance in case of venue or caterer cancellation, extreme weather, site damage or lost or stolen wedding attire.
